Yakari is a Pintupi woman who was born in the bush near Kiwirrikurra in Western Australia. She came out of the desert with her family in the early 1960s and lived at the Papunya Tula settlement. The family later returned to Kiwirrikurra, where Yakari still lives with her sister Payu and daughter Sylvia.
Yakari paints women’s ceremonies which take place at the Mukula water soak, a site within the Pintupi sacred lands between Kintore and Jupiter Wells. She is one of Papunya Tula’s most respected senior women and painters.
