IRRUNYTU ARTS

Irrunytju Arts was established in 2001, based in the community of Irrunytju (Wingellina), Western Australia, south west of Alice Springs. The artists often travel through this arid, ancestral landscape in search of food, plants for medicine, and grasses for basket making. The artists use the inspiration of this landscape in their paintings which depict a variety of tjukurpa (dreamtime) stories.

When the Arts centre was opened, many community members attended daily to paint their tjukurpa stories, even though some were painting before this time. The artists from this community are known for producing vibrant and colourful canvasses.

Tjayanka Woods is supported by Irrunytju Arts.
